WATERBLOMMETJIE FESTIVAL 2022
It is time for the Annual Waterblommetjie Festival. Celebrate this local delicacy on Saturday 3 September. Come and celebrate it between three of Paarl’s best loved wine estates – Rhebokskloof, Domaine Brahms and Windmeul Kelder!
Rhebokskloof will offer indoor seating for the day so everyone can enjoy the good food and wine comfortably. We also recommend bringing along a warm jacket and if the weather clears up, you can bring along chairs and blankets to enjoy the sun.
*Card and/or e-wallet payments are preferred on the day.

What is a Waterblommetjie?
Known as the Cape Pond Weed, Water Hawthorne, Vleikos Aponogeton distachyos (Aponogetonaceae).
The waterblommetjie is one of South Africa’s most famous edible plants. It has a long history of use by the indigenous Khoikhoi, both medicinally and as a nutritious food. The name means “little water flower” and though it’s an edible flower, it’s not the sort that is used to garnish a salad.
This event takes place only once a year when the indigenous waterblommetjies are in season. Your taste buds are in for a treat at as Windmeul Kelder, Domaine Brahms and Rhebokskloof Wine Estate will be serving waterblommetjies in traditional and innovative ways. Each wine farm will also have their own fun-filled program to keep visitors entertained the whole day!
Rhebokskloof will be hosting a day full of fun to celebrate this popular local event with:
- Wine tasting and specials
- Our special Waterblommetjie dishes will be available throughout the day – bredie, pizza, samosas and ice cream!
- Beer on tap will also be available
- Live entertainment from band Tequila – 11: 00 am – 16:00 pm
- Face Painting – 12:00 pm – 15:00 pm
- Jumping castle 10:00 am – 16:00 pm
- Balloon Twisting 11:00 – 16:00
- Pony rides (R20 per child) – 11:00 am – 15:00 pm
Balloon twisting, Jumping castle (on condition if the weather) and face painting all cost R50.
A special kiddies menu will also be available – chicken strips and fries.
(Please note that our restaurant will be closed on this day)

ENTRY IS FREE on a donation of a canned item to donate to charity.
