In 1989, Rhebokskloof was one of the newly opened wedding reception venues in Paarl. It also offered on-site dining for lunch and dinners in the Dutch Gable (now our wine tasting room). Always staying close to nature, we offered walking trails, hikes and tours in a jeep!

On 22 December 1989, Rhebokskloof hosted its first ever wedding in brand new refurbished Dutch Gable that overlooked a freshly laid lawn. Young trees were just planted before the Gable’s stoep. These young oaks now find its roots deep within our estate and grew to witness numerous wonderful nuptials over the 34 years since our wedding venues in Paarl have been open for business!

Last year just before Christmas on 22 December 2023, as Rheboskloof Estate celebrated its latest wedding, Mr. Rudi Opperman reached out to us on social media. He messaged us to say it was his wedding anniversary and was kind to send us some fantastic photos from he and his wife Mien’s big day.

Rudi and Mien were happy to also be our Rhebokskloof Wedding of the Month for February 2024! We think 34 years is long overdue for a feature and for our very first wedding!

Briefly tell us how you and your wife met?

I did business with Mien and we both ended up with much more than we bargained for!! ????

What made you decide to celebrate your wedding day at Rhebokskloof Estate?

Chef Corrie was related to close neighbours and shortly after the Rhebokskloof Estate opening had not yet hosted a wedding and made the suggestion – and so it was!!

How many people attended your wedding?

Approximately 26 people 

Can you remember what wines you had with your menu?

We still have a bottle of one of them! It was the Rhebokskloof Premier Rouge 1989!

What was your favourite moments as a couple at Rhebokskloof on that day?

Being such a small intimate group, it was lovely to spend the early evening on the veranda enjoying the Boland Mountain views after dinner.

What advice would you give to brides and grooms to-be for a long-lasting marriage?

Never allow the small or insignificant differences (and almost all are) let you forget why you fell in love in the first place…❤️
