For our latest vintages, we have entered in a few competitions including the John Platter Guide, the Prescient Chardonnay Report, and the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge. Rhebokskloof did not only fair well but exceeded expectations.
PRESCIENT CHARDONNAY REPORT 2021
This year’s Prescient Chardonnay Report attracted 93 entries from 67 producers.
Our Rhebokskloof Chardonnay was one of only a few wines to score over 90 with a score of 91 points. Our Black Marble Hill Chardonnay also did exceptionally well with a score of 89 points.
GILBERT & GAILLARD INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE 2021
The Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge tastes and awards more than 10 000 wines per year. Blind tastings are done quarterly by a French tasting panel, chaired by Philippe Gaillard, Francois Gilbert and Sylvain Patard.
We are extremely proud of our Rhebokskloof Pinotage 2019 that received a double gold with a score of 91. Our Rhebokskloof Shiraz 2019 received a gold – it has a wonderful smoky leather palette, and our Flatrock Sparkle received silver – it has a crispy finish and an easy-drinking quality.
JOHN PLATTER GUIDE 2022
Wines receiving the sought-after five-star rating in Platter’s must undergo a rigorous process of sighted and blind assessment (i.e. with and without sight of the label) by a team of experienced experts. Bottlings that are judged to be “Superlative, a South African classic” are given the highest ranking of five stars, equal to 95 points or better on the 100-point rating scale.
With expertly compiled wine reviews, winery profiles and cellar door attractions, Platter’s is the go-to guide to South Africa’s wines and estates.
Black Marble Hill Chardonnay 2019 – 5 star (sold out)
Complex 2019 perfectly harmonises intense fruit (baked apple, marmalade), sweet spice & opulent mouthfeel derived from regular lees stirring into a stellar, compelling whole. Natural ferment, 50% new barrels, 11 months. No 2018.
Black Marble Hill Cap Classique 2016 – 4 star
Light gold 2016 sparkler from chardonnay serves up delicious notes of warm pie crust, vanilla & lemon curd in a fine, creamy, melt-in-the-mouth bubble. 20% barrel fermented, 52 months on lees.
Black Marble Hill Syrah 2018 – 4.5 star
Perfumed lavender entices on 2018, from a single block, on mostly decomposed granite (as all except White). Packed with dark fruit, white pepper & cured meat, deep & rich without heaviness. Firm tannin structure & serious oak, 80% new, 2 years, bode well for cellaring to reveal full charm.
ASIA WINE TROPHY
With over 4,300 submitted wines, the Asia Wine Trophy is Asia’s largest OIV (International Organisations of Wine and Vine) wine competition and probably the most important one. It is the only wine challenge in Asia under the patronage of the OIV. Judges from all the main importing countries of the continent are present, who term every year the quality and implementation unmatched in Asia. Hence the interest in Asia is growing more and more.
Our Black Marble Hill Syrah was awarded a Gold.
